Baked Beans

The best recipe for home made baked beans

Ingredients
  

  • 500 g ripe tomatoes cut into quarters
  • 20 g red or brown lentils
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 30 g pure maple syrup
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • 500 g cannellini beans If you use canned beans, rinse and drain them. I always use beans that I soaked over night and cooked for 30 minutes before use.
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp cream cheese e.g. philadelphia

Instructions
 

  • Place tomatoes, lentils, paprika, syrup, salt and pepper into a pan and cook for about 10 minutes or until the tomatoes are soft.
  • Using a a mixer, mix the tomatoes well, so that you get a nice rich tomato sauce.
  • Add beans and Worcestershire sauce and cook for another 10 minutes.
  • Add the cream cheese and adjust the seasoning to your taste.
  • Serve on toast or on a jacket potato.
